What To Do If You Find A Mouse In the House

November 29, 2018

No one wants to find a mouse in their house. Not only are they destructive to your property, but they also carry diseases. It is not safe to allow an infestation to linger, which is why it is so important to take action as soon as you know there is a mice control problem. Unfortunately, mice are crafty little creatures, and getting rid of them is often easier said than done. Take the following steps to stop mice from invading your home.

Eliminate Their Food Source

One of the reasons that mice enter your home is because they are searching for food. Make the process difficult on them by cleaning the floors often, taking the trash out whenever it starts to get full, and not leaving dirty dishes in the sink. Put food in containers that mice cannot chew through; both plastic and glass are good choices. Finally, do not leave pet food out. Only put as much as your pet is going to eat in their bowl to ensure that you don’t have any left over for the rodents to nibble on.

Locate Points Of Entry

It is very important to figure out where the mice are getting in so that you can put traps in the correct places. Guessing and placing the traps down randomly throughout the house is not going to get you anywhere. Look to see if the droppings are concentrated in certain areas; also, if you can find the nest, that is helpful information as well. Once you have some idea of where the mice are spending most of their time, you can lay traps effectively.

Walk around your house and search for holes or gaps; fill them so that mice cannot use them to gain access to the property. If you have debris close to the foundation, make sure to clear that away. Look over your windows and doors, caulking any small gaps. In addition, get your roof inspected to make sure there aren’t any issues up there that have gone unnoticed. Remember, mice can squeeze through very small spaces.
