In the vicinity of the Raritan floodplain, the common pests are different from those near Centennial Avenue, and in turn those are different from the commercial areas of South Randolphville Road.

Pests get inside Piscataway properties through:

In spring and summer, carpenter ants swarm when it’s warm and humid and the temperature reaches into the 70s. As fall and winter approach, the indoor pests come in. During late September and October, stink bugs accumulate on south-facing walls and then enter attics and wall voids to spend winter. As nights get colder, mice and rats push indoors looking for warmth. Spiders follow the smaller insects inside. Cockroaches seem to care less about which month it is and are found in warm, moist spaces at all times.

And then there are the year-round issues – bed bugs aren’t seasonal. They travel with suitcases, secondhand furniture, and shared laundry. Raccoons and squirrels look for openings in the roofline whenever they find them.
