What Are Silverfish?

Silverfish, also known as Lepisma Saccharina, are notoriously recognized for their damaging eating habits. These pests have been known to not only feed on stored food but also turn to clothing, paper, shampoo, old books, cardboard debris, and wallpaper.

Silverfish tend to hideout and dwell in dark, moist areas of the house which is why they are commonly spotted in bathroom showers, sinks, and kitchen cabinets.

How Can I Identify A Silverfish?

They are tear-shaped and typically silver or gray in color. They have two long antennae and three long bristles that extend from their abdomen. Even though they don’t have wings, they move about very swiftly and quickly.

If a homeowner begins to notice pepper-like droppings (fecal matter), feeding damage, abandoned outer shells or spots more than one insect in damp areas, this could be a tell-tale sign of a Silverfish infestation.
