Most Common Pests In New Jersey:

Cockroach on a concrete surface.

Roaches

They transfer to personal belongings like overnight bags, luggage, or even you, and in turn they transfer to places in your home or business. A single pregnant female can lead to more than 300 adults and 1000 new eggs in just three months, which can cause an infestation to worsen rapidly.

Two carpenter ants fighting each other.

Ants

Generally, ants are most active during warmer seasons. This is especially true during the summer because they need to gather enough food to make it through the winter. The hotter and drier the weather is, the more inclined ants are to search your home or business for food and water. Ants are attracted to potential food sources which may come in the forms of crumbs, food residue, dirty dishes that are left out, or trash that is not often emptied. Ants can enter your homes and buildings through the tiniest of cracks, such as those in foundations and around windows and doors.

Many termites crawling around a termite nest.

Subterranean Termites

Subterranean termites swarm in different months depending on what type they are. Eastern subterranean termites swarm in April and Southern subterranean termites swarm in May. Subterranean termites live underground and travel to their food source, so yards with a lot of damp soil are at risk for housing a nest.

Bed bug on a person's skin.

Bed Bugs

Bed bugs become more active between June and October due to the increased heat and humidity. They also spread more during this time because of the increase in travel. Bringing bed bugs into your home is easy and common. While they cannot jump, they are very good travelers. Bed bugs can be picked up from places such as movie theater seats, restaurants, and hotels. They transfer to personal belongings like overnight bags, luggage, or even you, and in turn they transfer to places in your home or business. A single pregnant female can lead to more than 300 adults and 1000 new eggs in just three months, which can cause an infestation to worsen rapidly.

Hornet on a flower.

Wasps & Hornets

Hornets are most active during the spring and summer due to their reproductive cycle. Hornet queens emerge to start building nests and laying eggs in the spring. During the summer, the eggs hatch and develop into adult hornets. These new adults will leave their nests to mate and new fertile queens will be born. These queens are the only ones that will make it through the winter, and once spring arrives again, they will start a new cycle of laying eggs. Hornets work through the day and night. They rest during the early hours of the morning, and are active again after the sun rises. Wasps like Hornerts are most active during the summer. The queens that survived the winter emerge and begin to build nests in April. They then populate their new nests with eggs that were fertilised the previous fall.
